Bringing the War to America
by Curtiss Wikstrom

I am afraid that Americans are about to make one of the biggest mistakes in a generation.

There is unreasonable and excessive criticism of our leadership in Washington.  And a failure to appreciate how well we have it.  The campaign of the Democrats and their allies in the news media is that they want to change the direction of America.  But what direction are they changing it from, and where will they bring us?  We ought to look at what we are about to lose before we change that leadership.

American businesses are earning profits at historically high levels.  That means our pension funds are doing well.  Those pension funds are dependent on healthy businesses. One of the reasons businesses are doing well is that taxes are at historically low levels.  Yet revenues to the federal government are at all time highs as well.  That is logical.  Healthy business with low tax rates pay lots of taxes.  Struggling businesses don't make many profits, so the high tax rates don't bring in much revenue.  This is especially true of taxes on capital gains.  When taxes are reasonable people trade their property and pay taxes.  When taxes are at high rates, they don't trade, and don't pay taxes.

Home valuations have almost doubled in the past several years. Unemployment is low.  Oil prices are down. And the federal deficit is coming down. We have come out of the recession that we were in about six years ago.  Our leaders' strategy was to grow ourselves out of the recession, rather than hunker down, raise taxes, and cut services.  So far that strategy has worked.

Do we seriously want to change this?  Do we want higher taxes, lower business profits, lower pension accounts, higher unemployment,  higher energy costs?  That is what the Democrats promise us.  There is absolutely no question that their first order of business will be to increase taxes. They promise that almost daily.  Then they will go on to legislate more burdens on businesses, prevent energy self sufficiency,  increase the burden of regulations on everything from what we are allowed to do in our businesses to how we are allowed to think, and further erode the moral structure in our country. They voted to destroy marriage in California. California only survived the "change in direction" because of the governor's veto.  Are we going to sit at home this election and allow this to happen?

The biggest mistake that will be made in this generation is to cut and run in the Middle East.  And doing that after all the sacrifices that have been made to keep the war against America out of our country.  As soon as we turn tail in the Middle East we will allow the America haters there to consolidate their power, develop nuclear weapons, and begin to do what is their long range goal, destroy America and turn it into a Muslim country.  The war was started by the Muslim extremists decades ago.  They bombed our embassies and our ships, and began killing us on our own soil.  Then we struck back, and took the war to their territory.  Now they are struggling and dying trying to prevent moderate leadership from taking hold in the Middle East.  All of the fighting and dying is going on there, and if we have any common sense we will keep it going on there, and let them do the losing.

Think for a minute what effect there would be on this country if Chicago was destroyed?  Or New York City, or Los Angeles?  Or maybe all of them.  The fact that we have had nothing happen for several years is the result of resolute leadership and actively pursuing the enemy in our home territory.  If we free up the extremist Muslim factions from the need to preserve their own lives and territory, we are inviting them to do it to us.

This world is a very dangerous place.  Because of the enormous destructive power of even one barrel of  biological weapons, small groups of people could actually conquer the world. A military empire in the middle east surely could do it, especially with cowards in office in America. Many of us have forgotten the lessons of World War II.  Failure to act against evil powers when they were weak resulted in a World War where millions were killed during the war, and millions killed by evil empires that developed after the war.

Things are never perfect in the world,  and people are not perfect.  There is always something to criticize.  But at least this country is led by resolute people who are not cowardly or afraid to meet the enormous challenges that we face, both at home and abroad.  We need to back them up.  We can't afford the change that the Democrats want to bring us, especially cutting and running in the Middle East.  Let's not let it happen.
